cross U creates business matching opportunities by providing a space for a wide range of players in the space business in Japan and overseas to come together and interact.
NETS project started originally as an international collaborative effort to establish an international standard for testing of nano-satellites in 2011. This international effort led to the publication of ISO-19683 "Space systems - Design qualification and acceptance tests of small spacecraft and units" in July, 2017. The scope of NETS project has expanded from testing to broader aspects to seek a new way of making and using satellites with low cost and fast manner, i.e. "Lean Satellite". A "lean satellite" is a satellite that utilizes non-traditional, risk-taking development and management approaches with the aim to provide value of some kind to the customer at low-cost and without taking much time to realize the satellite mission.
The Center for Nanosatellite Testing (CeNT) at Kyushu Institute of Technology is equipped with environmental test facilities such as vibration and shock tests, thermal vacuum, and thermal cycle tests, for nanosatellites with a maximum length of 50 cm per dimension and a mass of up to 50 kg. Other equipment available at CeNT includes out-gas measurement and antenna pattern evaluation apparatus, as well as two clean rooms for satellite assembly/ disassembly and storage. Users of the center are from both Japan and overseas.
Intelligent Space Systems Laboratory, ISSL is under the auspices of the Aeronautics and Astronautics department at the University of Tokyo. ISSL has developed and supported many satellite projects from Cubesat to the Microsatellite.
UNISEC-Global is an international nonprofit body, consisting of local chapters across the world. Since its establishment in November 2013 in Japan, UNISEC-Global has provided a forum every year to promote practical space development activities, mainly at the university level, such as designing, developing, manufacturing, launching, and operating micro/nano/pico satellites and rockets, including their payloads. University students, young researchers, their tutors, and other stakeholders around the world participate in the annual UNISEC-Global Meeting. We have an average of more than 130 participants from about 33 countries in each Meeting.
